If we go by rankings, Daniil Medvedev is now the top player in the Australian Open and he is surely playing like one. He thrashed Henri Laaksonen in straight sets in his first round game.
In the second round, he had a tough opponent in front of him in the name of Nick Kyrgios. Nick and Daniil both seve big so it was always going to be an entertaining clash.
However, Medvedev kept his cool and in a tough encounter which went on for 4 sets, the Russian emerged victorious. However, what happened during the game did not please Medvedev at all.
“Show some respect to Jim Courier”: Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev was not happy with the way the Australian crowd was booing him in between the points. In the post match interview with Jim Courier, Medvedev lashed out at the Australian crowd.
When asked about how he was able to keep himself calm under pressure, Medvedev said, “Yeah that’s the only choice when you get booed between first and second serves so you have to stay calm.”
Jim added that the crowd was actually shouting ‘siuu’. However, as Jim was speaking, the crowd went into a frenzy when Medvedev intervened. “Sorry I can’t hear you. Guys I can’t hear him, please show some respect for Jim Courier, he won here guys.”
After the interview, the crowd thankfully started cheering Medvedev and to sign things off on a positive note, Medvedev signed “siuu” in the camera lens before departure.
