Lata Mangeshkar, “The Nightingale of India“, the legendary singer and composer for almost seven decades in the Indian Music industry dies at the age of 92.
“Lata Di died at 8:12 a.m. due to multi-organ failure after over 28 days of Covid-19 diagnosis,” Dr. Pratit Samdani told reporters outside Breach Candy Hospital.
Lata Mangeshkar was considered the most influential singer in India since the vintage Bollywood and Music Industry to modern times. Lata di had the most phenomenal voice which gave her the title of “The Nightingale of India” and honoured as the “Queen of Melody“.
The Indian government has ordered two days of national mourning for the late singer. The national flag will be flown at half-mast from Sunday through Monday, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement Sunday. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi says
“The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled.” via his Twitter on Sunday.

Lata di had recorded songs in over 36 Indian Languages and a few foreign languages as well, though primarily featuring in Hindi and Marathi. She received a number of awards and accolades throughout her career, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1987), Bharat Ratna in 2001 and the Officer of the Legion of Honour in 2007, the highest civilian award by France.
