John Stockton, former Utah Jazz guard has been in controversies regarding his reluctance to wear masks and vaccination conspiracies. John Stockton earned his name in the “Hall of Fame” and has been an Olympic gold medalist for Team USA.
A photo of John Stockton’s statue wearing a mask surfaced on the internet. The act must have been done by a fan or maybe a satirical prankster referring to the events where he refuses to wear masks.
What instigated it.
Recently John has been associated with a lot of conspiracies during the Coronavirus Pandemic, related to not wearing masks and spreading unrest among people against the vaccines. As a result of his stances against public safety, his alma mater Gonzaga College suspended his season tickets and banned him from attending basketball games at the university.
John Stockton’s words
In an interview with The Spokesman-Review, Stockton said “Basically, it came down to, they were asking me to wear a mask to the games and being a public figure, someone a little bit more visible, I stuck out in the crowd a little bit.” he added “And therefore they received complaints and felt like from whatever the higher-ups those weren’t discussed, but from whatever it was higher up, they were going to have to either ask me to wear a mask or they were going to suspend my tickets.”
Apparently, the spectators for the games at the university are expected to provide vaccination proof or negative test results, and Stockton fails to comply with the policies.
Such behaviour at times has a lot of impact on the fans and enthusiasts of the game. The world has been through a lot due to this pandemic and being an eminent personality in the NBA world, Stockton has a responsibility to spread positive awareness among the mass.
