Mercedes which dominated the Formula1 World for 8 years are always in the light to perform well. But will the past demons will haunt them? or the world will see them emerge victorious this season? Only time will tell.
Mercedes the defending Constructors’ Champion launches their 2022 car the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E-Performance. The car left the racing fans in awe as the team donned the old Silver dominant theme. The Silver arrows are pumped and motivated to be back on track.
Mercedes have been dominant in the past 8 years winning 8 consecutive Constructors’ Championships they have proved their dominance in the F1 world but the last year’s Divers’ Championship loss to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen have left a scar in the memory of the Silver Arrows.
Mercedes have high hopes for this season as the new Driver lineup has brought in the young driver George Russel. Russell has been promoted from the Mercedes junior program. He has proved his mettle in the last season by getting his maiden podium with the not so dominant Williams at the 2021 Belgium Grand Prix.
With Lewis Hamilton hunting for his record-breaking 8th World Drivers’ Championship title, the team can be seen as a threat to every team on the grid.
During the car launch, Hamilton expressed his excitement for the upcoming season.
“It just takes you back to being a kid,” said Hamilton at the launch. “I think it’s always exciting watching, I mean with this new era of car, we’ve never seen such a drastic change, right?
“So it’s such a huge change in so many ways, that it’s just been really interesting seeing the designers and everyone coming together to find the best ways of creating a masterpiece.”
George Russell added: “It feels incredible, obviously Lewis and I have driven so many laps in the simulator of this. We’ve seen all the drawings, we’ve had so many meetings and presentations about it, but suddenly seeing it all come together, seeing all of the men and women who have put so much hard work and grit into making this, and coming together here, I think it looks incredible.
“And I think the silver [coming] back, we’ve had an incredible livery with the black in the past couple of years – but the silver back on track I think is going to look incredible.”
With the approaching season, Mercedes are looking for redemption and with the new driver lineup adamant to prove individual worth we surely hope Mercedes to be in the top places where they have been.
Although the pre-season testing was not on point of the reigning constructors’ champion there are still hopes for them to push back. We have seen how hard they push when they are against the wall and we hope they do.
With the new regulations, we all do hope that there are multiple contenders this time in the race to world championships after all FIA made the regulation changes to bring the pack close for more competitive races.
