Red Bull vs Mercedes: Mercedes’ Engine Head joins the Red Bulls and many more FOLLOW!

Red Bull announces they will welcome Ben Hodgkinson as their new Technical Director of Powertrains. Mercedes will release Ben by 24th May who will be free to join the Red Bull.

“Mercedes F1 and Red Bull F1 today reached an agreement regarding the appointment of Ben Hodgkinson,” said in a joint statement by both teams.

“Under the terms of that agreement, Ben, who joined Mercedes in August 2001, will be free to join Red Bull Powertrains from 24 May 2022.”

After Honda decided to step out of F1 Red Bull decided to develop its own powertrain units. The team will prepare itself and develop itself the power unit for the next-gen of 2025 engines. Honda will be assisting Red Bull till the end of the year.

Mercedes will loose many bright minds?

Red Bull announced last year that 5 other Engine Personnel are set to join Red Bull too.

Steve Blewett, who was Mercedes HPP’s Head of Manufacturing for more than a decade and Production Manager at Williams previously, will become Production Director, while Omid Mostaghimi swaps his role as Mercedes’ F1 electronics team leader to become Head of Powertrains Electronics and ERS.

With all these signings Red Bull surely gave a booster jab to its 2023 powertrain production.

Red Bull looses Aero Chief

Red Bull’s Head of Aerodynamics Dan Fallows will join Aston Martin as their Technical Director in April. Both Aston Martin and Red Bull came to an agreement regarding his notice period.

Aston Martin Group Chief Executive Martin Whitmarsh said: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Red Bull which releases Dan early from his contract and are looking forward to him joining the team.”

Christian Horner the Red Bull boss thanked Fallows for his service.

“We would like to thank Dan for his many years of excellent service and wish him well for the future.”
