The fight for 4th spot is all high. The world cup 2023 is over-head and this player has come as ‘saviour’ replacing Rishabh Pant.
The selectors, as well as team management, are taking ‘Dolo-650’ for the headaches, selecting the batsman for the 4th spot. Well, they might have finally found one who can solve their troubles.
The three contenders for the 4th spot could be ‘Rishabh Pant, ‘Surya Kumar Yadav’ or Shreyas Iyer.
To be honest, Pant has failed to show the maturity he should have shown, being an emerging player. The way he got out in the last match against South Africa uncovered many questions and doubts. That death stare from Virat Kohli was the sign that he is in deep deep trouble. Pant is famous for his aggressive innings and has scored decent runs in the past. Thus the question arises whether he could be trusted in any such situations? I am sure Rohit and other team management would also be worried about the same.
SURYA KUMAR YADAV (SKY) –
IPL heroics has surely made SKY among the most stylish and best contender for the 4th spot. He has not got enough opportunities to play for India. The Opportunity was not grabbed properly as we see him either warming the bench or out of the squad. SKY plays for Mumbai Indians, which means he stands a great chance to be playing for India. Rohit trusts him and he will try to book his slot for the world cup. On the other hand, they would surely want him to play a minimum of 20 innings before selecting into the world cup squad.
Lately, Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer is not in very good form. His timing and shot selection is very questionable for a year now. He is getting out on short balls, which reflects a major lapse in the confidence of the player. Iyer has also been in and out of the team for a while. It would be interesting to see whether Rohit gives him chance or makes him warm the bench and wait for him to get into the form.
There was a time in the presence of Mahi, Yuvi and Raina we would sit comfortably expecting a win from any situation.
