Who is Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder
The new trailer reveals Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale. He is a villain from the Marvel Comics and as the name suggests, Gorr has dedicated his life to killing gods. Gorr’s crusade, of course, did not begin on the spur of the moment, but rather out of an insatiable need for revenge.
Gorr was born into terrible poverty on a planet with no name, and he and his parents scraped by on the verge of famine every day, according to Marvel Comics. Gorr’s situation was made worse by the fact that both his mother and father died when he was still a youngster, leaving him to fend for himself in a harsh world.
Gorr eventually found a partner in Arra, which resulted in the birth of his own family. But it was not the end, his pregnant partner Arra died in an earthquake, followed by the deaths of each of his offspring shortly after.
Following the death of his last son Agar from malnutrition and innumerable unanswered pleas, Gorr declared to his people that there were no gods, resulting in his banishment.
Gorr, on the other hand, would come to a devastating realisation while roaming the deserts of his home world, yearning to die. Gorr realised that gods did exist after seeing a conflict between two gods with his own eyes; they were merely apathetic to his family’s suffering and disregarding their requests.
Things would come to a head when one of the gods begged Gorr’s assistance in the war, enraged him and causing the other god’s symbiote-like blade to link to him, bestowing upon him the weapon of All-Black the Necrosword. Gorr would spend the next thousands of years hunting down and killing every deity he could discover.
The trailer is still up for more speculations and revealations till the release of the actual movie.
