Wizards of Waverly Place, one of Disney’s most famous sitcoms, is set to get a sequel. The show’s original stars Selina Gomez and his screen sibling David Henrie get together for the pilot.
Disney Channel has ordered a pilot for an updated version of the 2007–12 sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place, which is making a return. Selina Gomez will appear as a guest star in the pilot as Alex Russo, the character who had a major part in starting her career. David Henrie will return as Justin Russo, a series regular. Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney’s Just Roll with It), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat), and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess) are the newest cast members that join him.
The pilot opens with Justin as an adult, having given up his life as a wizard to lead a regular life with his wife and their two children. Justin receives a surprise when a strong young wizard in need of training knocks on his door following an enigmatic occurrence at WizTech. He must choose between embracing his history and continuing with his daily activities in order to secure the Wizard World’s future.
Series protagonist Brown will play the strong young magician Billie, who Justin trains. Gianapoulos will portray Justin’s wife Giada, while Thiele will portray their eldest son Roman Russo.
The reunion news comes amid news that Gomez may consider retiring from music for acting. Gomez currently stars with Martin Short and Steve Martin on Hulu’s “Only Murders.”
“I just found it really fun so I kept going but the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, ‘I would like to find something to just settle on,” Gomez said in an interview.
The original series continued for four seasons, garnering positive reviews and winning Emmys, until lead actress Selena Gomez felt it was time to move on to more mature roles. Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie debuted in 2009 on the Disney Channel, while the television programme aired from 2007 until 2012. In 2013, the actors reunited for The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, a stand-alone television spectacular.
